AFW 2018 Continued

Just a few more pictures from our Alternative Fashion Week 2018!

So excited for next year. All I can think about is what I would do differently with designs that I saw over the weekend. All I can think about is how I would style and photograph the designs I saw. I think i'm actually contemplating being a designer next year!

AFW 2018 and Baby's First Photography

This weekend was filled with such wonderfully amazing things!

I was able to walk for my 4th time as part of alternative fashion week, and for one of my best friends! MAV Creative (aka MAV Photography) took her inspiration from her childhood growing up in the late 80's, early 90's (think troll dolls, Gem, the Spice Girls, etc.)- highly colorful and holographic with big, big hair!

The best selfie I can manage (right before I gave my hair an added juj). I'd like to call this look Jackie O'Mermaid

And I've already found pictures of my full outfit over on instagram! Still waiting for the official runway photos to be released.

Another item I was able to fit into the weekend was getting my hands on a camera and learning how to photograph! Red Generation Photography and I made an absolute mess on his dining room table with our never ending stacks of trinkets, baubles, flowers, and herbs; but in the end we both ended up with some great still life shots using only his dining room window for light!

Here's me struggling to learn the triangle that is shutter speed, aperture, and ISO; and also a glimpse of our mess
This is my SOOC, I'm a little unhappy with out white the natural light is, but it's not bad for straight out of camera
Tinkering a little bit with Photoshop, I cranked out this; added a gradient color filter to make the whites less white and have it originating more by the window so it comes across as more lit by a sunset... still needs more tinkering. I'm not quite happy with it yet.
This one below is his first released from our play day together:

I love seeing how the same pile of items can yield massively different results! There's my preference with a warm sunset lit display, trying to trigger the smells of harvest and cinnamon as you maybe sit back with a hot cup of spiced tea; and then there's his, which makes you feel a little lonely, like someone was reading that book, set it down, and never returned.

We should be getting together again for round two next weekend!

New Eyes for my Eyes

As the title says, I got new eyes for my eyes today! New glasses rather- and I've never been so happy with a pair of glasses EVER. All the pairs before grew on me, but the initial try on was always "I mean... I guess they're okay, they're the best here..." but I. LOVE THESE. I've spent years trying to find a good John Lennon frame that didn't make my face look ridiculous, and with my bomb insurance and inside knowledge on how to maximize my benefits, these $600 glasses were only $14!

I also opted to do a head to toe 70s fashion day to mark their debut.

As a celebration, marker, whatever you want to call it, i've also decided to do an all around post highlighting the strange specs I've sported (what alliteration!) over the years. We'll slowly travel back in time, because that sounds the most fun.

Technically the pair that I had before the ones I have now, but currently missing so had to revert to the pair below. First ever mixed plastic and metal frame!
My current back up glasses; first ever purple and first ever tortoise shell! I normally hate the tortoise shell pattern, but it's not so bad when it's purple :)
A running theme for the past few pairs of glasses I've had: these were my first red pair!
I loved this pair of glasses so much, that when they were discontinued I ordered them online from shady back alley sites because I wasn't able to give them up yet! They were brown plastic but had a weird inner lining of blue that shone with just the right light <3
I'm so glad I never went back to ovals, cat eyes and rounds are where I belong!
Around here I went through a phase where I would wear contacts every time I went out or thought people would take pictures, so I don't have a lot of later in high school images of me in glasses.

Exhibit A why I never go out in the sun! This summer I worked as a lifeguard and 'cross my heart hope to die' that is 100% real tan with no fake tan anything. Back then I loved me some funky shapes and end pieces!
Trapezoid was my thing for a veeeerrry long time
God help me
Not sure if these are my first pair or not, but they're definitely around there. I was in 4th grade when I got my first pair.
So thanks for taking this trip with me down spectacle lane! That definitely doesn't cover all the glasses I've ever had, but I support the lack of awkward teenage pictures of me on the internet! Many more daring and new frames to come as I continue my trend of wanting new frames to try; I do have clear on my list (like the plastic clear) and rimless. Too many frames to try, too little time!

New Endeavors

I'm pleased to announce I'm going to be trying new things! And will do my best to blog about them!

I will be transitioning from my model role to the opposite side of the camera to try my hand at photography (you'll see a small fragment of my modeling in the header, follow my website to see more). I fill my day with tutorials on finding and using light, retouching techniques, and extravagant photoshop tutorials; and I could not be more excited.

As a model with certain goals for looks in terms of their final look, I was getting frustrated with having limited options to get what I wanted- I'm hoping now I can fulfill my quest to get final looks I want through some self portraiture, as well as extend another photography style to the area.

Not to mention, being a model is stressful- I remember thinking things like "No I have to be skinny for this photoshoot later, I can't eat those things", "I have a photoshoot tomorrow, I can't have puffy eyes from crying- STOP CRYING", etc. And at the time I knew it was weird [that I would have to schedule a time within my week to allow myself to cry], but didn't think much more outside of that. Looking back, it was so unhealthy: the trying to stifle emotions, the not eating, the perpetual stress of networking and keeping up social media appearances. With this new work, I know I can do this on my own, no need to network really- I can just recruit friends since i'm able to style, pose, do hair/makeup- and send them on their way with something that they could really love.

I'm so excited. I. cannot. wait.

I should have a camera in my hands by June to start my preliminary 'learn all the buttons on the camera' lessons.

Until then, here are some youtube channels that I've been binging:
